WHY COLOMBIA?

Colombia is a highly unique country! Its combination of natural beauty, rich culture and incredibly friendly people will make you wonder why you had never visited this corner of the world before. As the slogan of the national airline goes: The only risk is that you will want to stay!

PEACE Today Colombia is on the threshold of a new era in its modern history, after nearly six decades of internal armed conflict in the country. Historic advancements have been made in the negotiations between the Colombian government and the major guerrilla group, FARC-EP, and the support of the international community is crucial to the peace building process in the country.

BIODIVERSITY Colombia is the second most bio-diverse country in the world after Brazil which is approximately 7 times bigger.

It is also one of the largest cities in Latin America, and among the 30 largest cities in the world. WHAT TO EXPECT?

“Never before had I worked with a Habitat affiliate that was so organized, flexible, accommodating, communicative and dedicated to its mission. HFH Colombia worked tirelessly with my co-leader, Craig Kirkpatrick, and me to ensure that we had a meaningful experience on the site and in our reflection meetings. They provided a highly structured schedule that balanced hard work, significant interactions with community members, cultural experiences, history lessons, wonderful meals, and important conversations about poverty, housing solutions and social production of housing. From logistics to first aid, they took care of everything. Craig and I felt supported through the entire process, from trip planning to trip execution and beyond.

HFH Colombia provided every participant with a life-changing experience and a launch pad for continued humanitarian service. I would highly recommend HFH Colombia to anyone planning a Global Village trip. I hope to work with them again in the near future and continue the relationship between our two incredible communities.” Augusta F., GV Team, April 2016
